Create a flipbook with Claude Code MCP

Turn a PDF brochure or catalogue from your project into a flipbook in Claude Code. The Foliade plugin uses the MCP server to transfer the document, track conversion and publish when you request it.

Install the plugin, connect your account and authorize access. No local server, API key or Python installation is required.

MCP is included for free, with or without an account. Codex and Claude Code follow your plan permissions; their own access terms remain separate.

Before each transfer, the assistant checks the account or guest mode and explains the limits returned by Foliade. The draft remains private until you request publication.

From PDF to interactive catalogue

A flipbook is a document you can read in a browser by turning its pages. Foliade converts your PDF into an interactive catalogue; the assistant prepares the content and runs the MCP tools. Check the text, images and links before sharing it.

1. Install the Foliade plugin

In Claude Code, run these two commands:

/plugin marketplace add https://gitlab.com/gekkode-public/foliade-connectors.git
/plugin install foliade@foliade

This public marketplace is maintained by Foliade. It is not a listing in the official OpenAI or Anthropic directories, which require a separate review.

Replace an older plugin installation

Remove the plugin and its local marketplace using the commands below, then follow the installation steps above. Your Foliade catalogues are not deleted.

/plugin uninstall foliade@foliade
/plugin marketplace remove foliade

2. Connect your account

OAuth sign-in is optional for a guest upload and required to access your account, including a free account. The server checks permissions for every action; an expired connection never becomes guest access.

Restart Claude Code, open the command below, select the plugin's Foliade server then choose to authenticate.

/mcp

On the Foliade page that opens, sign in, check the account email and authorize the connection. Then return to your assistant.

If the browser does not open, open the link shown in the terminal. Do not share this sign-in link.

If your organization disables plugins, MCP servers or network access, its administrator must authorize this integration.

3. Check before sending a PDF

To try without an account, ask the assistant to check guest mode and its limits, then convert the selected PDF to a private draft without publishing it.

Check the connected Foliade account, then list my catalogs. Don't change anything.

The assistant must use the Foliade tools and show your email address. Installing a plugin does not yet prove that your account is connected.

Generate a PDF named test and send it to my Foliade account as a private draft.

The plugin transfers only the selected PDF, waits for conversion and returns the draft link. This link requires the owner to be signed in. Explicitly request publication to get a public link.

Publish the draft I just approved and give me its public reading link.

Questions about flipbooks and MCP

What is the difference between the plugin and the MCP server?

The MCP server makes Foliade tools available to the assistant. The plugin adds their configuration and instructions for transferring a local PDF. Install the plugin to follow this guide; you do not need to host a server.

Can I create a flipbook for free without an account?

Without an account, on the website or through MCP: 3 PDFs per IP per 24 hours, 50 MB and 100 pages per PDF, one upload in progress. Publication lasts 30 days; private management lasts 30 minutes. Keep the private link to attach the catalogue to an account before it expires.

If Foliade does not appear

Check that the plugin is installed and enabled, reconnect your account, then open a new task. The assistant must never substitute pCloud or another service for Foliade.

These guides cover Codex and Claude Code with local file access. They do not guarantee attachment transfers in ChatGPT, Claude web, Claude Desktop or Cowork.

Control and revoke access

In Foliade → API → Connected assistants, you can revoke each connection. Access ends immediately without deleting your catalogues.

The connection expires after 30 days. Then reconnect your account. The REST API keys are independent.

Advanced alternative: add only the MCP server

Choose this method or the plugin, never both. The plugin adds instructions for transferring local PDFs.

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user foliade https://foliade.gekkode.com/mcp
claude mcp login foliade

Run the add-server command first, then the login command. Authorize access in your browser before returning to the assistant.

An old local installation must be removed before this replacement. Revoke its old API key if no other applications are using it.
