Read a Flipbook on Mobile: Zoom, Search and Contents

Learn how to flip through a catalogue on a phone or computer, zoom into a page and search for a word in the PDF with the Foliade reader.

Turn pages and zoom on mobile

Open the catalogue link in your phone’s browser. Below 760 pixels in width, the reader displays one page at a time. Use the arrows or turn a page with a gesture, then pinch to zoom. On a computer, you can also navigate with the keyboard, zoom buttons and double-clicking.

Search the text in your PDF

Enter a word in search and choose a result to open its page. Search uses the source PDF’s text; it does not recognise letters in a scanned image. If there are no results, check that you can select text in the PDF before preparing a new edition.

Accessibility

Open a specific catalogue page

Open the thumbnails or table of contents to jump to a section. To share a specific page, add ?page=12, for example, to the catalogue link. Test this address after conversion: a cover or split spread can shift page numbers. Available controls depend on the settings chosen by the publisher.

Text summary of the video
  1. This is the Foliade reader, the page your readers open. It works in any recent browser, on computers, tablets and phones, with no plug-in.
  2. Turn pages by dragging a corner, with the arrows, or with the keyboard. The bar shows where you are, and you can type a page number.
  3. Zoom in to read the small print: double-click a page, use the buttons, or pinch on a touch screen.
  4. Search looks into the real text of your PDF, not into pictures. Each result opens the right page.
  5. The thumbnails and the table of contents give an overview of the whole document, and open any page in one click.
  6. Share opens a panel with the link and the embed code. Readers can also go fullscreen, print, or download the PDF when you allow it.

Key points

  • On mobile, the reader automatically switches to single page below 760 pixels wide.
  • The deep link ?page=12 opens the catalogue directly at page 12.
  • The text stays selectable and exposed to screen readers: quality depends on the reading order of the source PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does the reader load the whole catalogue at once?

No. Pages are loaded as you leaf through, starting with the ones that are visible.

Why does search fail to find any words?

Search depends on the text in the PDF. A document made entirely of scanned images provides no text to search.
